For the past few days a shadow of anxiety has been looming over the Yash Chopra house. The big boss is evading the media for fear of being asked uncomfortable questions related to his son Aditya.
Speculation is rife over the low-key director’s marriage to actress Rani Mukherjee and also about problems between father and son. It was left to Pamela Chopra, Yash’s wife and Aditya’s mother, to clear the air.

Pam said the phones at home haven’t stopped ringing, and ironically all queries are related to the father-son estrangement and Adi’s marriage.

“My bhabhi called up and cried inconsolably. She told me Yash ko sambhalna. They have all started believing that there’s some problem between my husband and son. And that’s upsetting me. Let me make it clear, Adi will do anything for his father and vice versa. Their love is so strong that nothing can come between them, not even me,” said Pam confidently. She next denied that there was a rokka ceremony performed between Aditya and actress Rani Mukerji.

“It’s absolute nonsense. At least it’s not happened at the Chopra house,” she confirmed. Rumours about Rani (a Chopra camp favourite) and Adi started during the making of Veer Zara.

Pam attributes these reports to the imagination of certain people. “Now the Abhiash wedding and John-Bipasha romance has died down, people need something to gossip about they have found this,” she said.

Pam emphasised that Aditya lives with her and Yash and their son’s happiness is of immense importance to them.
“If he has chosen to marry Rani, we have absolutely no problem, we will welcome whoever he gets home,” she said, adding, “We are fond of Rani, she is a sweet girl, and I am also close to her mother.”

Talking of Aditya’s first wife Payal, Pam said, “Payal She is the interior designer of the studio, contrary to reports, Adi and Payal had a love marriage, it was not arranged by us.”

On Tuesday, Delhi and Mumbai were abuzz with rumours of high-profile engagement of Rani and Adi the heir of Yash Raj Films. Apart from this there are also rumours of a rift between Yash and Aditya, over the latter’s divorce from wife Payal. While all this kept many phones engaged, those supposedly in the thick of things have begun their dalliance with denials. To find out the truth it’s better to listen to the people close to the duo.

Lets see what a few people close enough to the couple in question have to say Raja Mukherji, Rani’s brother: “Are you mad? What engagement? These are just rumours. Rani is busy shooting for Pradeep Sarkar’s Laga Chunari Mein Daag. Actually we’re hearing all this for the first time from you. It’s shocking. Ma and Baba are sitting with me here, and they are shocked too.”

Kirron Kher: “The rumours say that I and Anupam have attended the roka ceremony. The fact is Sikander is down with tonsilitis, and all day I have attended only to him. Anupam is still shooting. I don’t think even the gentleman in question is aware that he’s engaged. Have you told him yet? Uday Chopra, Aditya’s brother: “What rubbish. This is the first time I am hearing about this. Poor Adi. He’s already been through so much. Where is all this coming from?”

Sabyasachi Mukherjee, costume designer: “What? Who got engaged? Rani? Are you joking? No, this is just a rumour. I have been with her all day long and she never told me anything.” Monica Bhattacharya, spokesperson Yash Raj: “The family knows about this rumour and they are very calm about it. Why react to something that is not true?” Pradeep Sarkar: “What rubbish No engagement has happened. I was with Rani today. So when did she get engaged?”

Will Aditya’s Mohabbatein for his ladylove come true and will he sing Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge only time will tell. Till than we left many in Bollywood in a tizzy over this buzz. Keep watching this space for more.
